Together with its long time programme partner MedCity, NPI gave the chance to five med and health-tech companies, all recipients of the renowned i4i grant of NIHR(National Institute for Health Research), to take the floor at the prestigious EY offices on this surprisingly warm February day.
A welcoming speech from Sarah Haywood, CEO of MedCity, started the proceedings. She commented on the achievements of Angels in MedCity, which paved the way to a very promising future for the programme. Echoing her words, NPI’s Commercial Director Sanjeev Gordhan shed some light on the latest figures before giving the floor to the two special guests of the evening, Kath Mackay from Innovate UK and Martin Hunt from NIHR, who both presented how these prominent organisations support the entrepreneurs of tomorrow in the Med and Health tech sectors.
The companies on show presented a diverse range of ideas demonstrating the continuing drive from entrepreneurs to help improve medical care for patients and doctors alike. Macusoft which offers a SaaS that can make an instant, patient-specific decision for the best patient outcome, kicked off in the ophthalmologic sector. Which then was a great introduction for Okulo, the next company pitching, which is currently developing the first smartphone technology capable of machine learning AI to provide home-monitoring of chronic eye diseases.
Cortirio then changed the tone of the discussion with its portable, low-cost brain imaging, in the form of a wearable headband that can be used directly at the scene of accidents by first responders. NEPeSMO then presented its unique early warning decision system which can identify changes in health status and provide personalised alerts on imminent lung attacks up to 7 days before their onset. Closing the evening, NuVision then showcased their human tissue-derived platform regenerative therapies for treatment of ophthalmology and wound care diseases.
